The Medical City for Military and Security Services Hospital has successfully performed a precise surgical procedure to remove a cancerous kidney tumour using a robotic surgical system, marking a significant step in adopting advanced medical technologies and enhancing the quality of healthcare services.
The procedure was carried out using an advanced robotic system that provides high-definition three-dimensional visualisation and precise control of surgical instruments, enabling the tumour to be removed while preserving the healthy portion of the kidney. A second procedure in the same specialty was also conducted for another patient using telemedicine technology.
Both procedures were performed by Major (Doctor) Mohammed bin Saleh Al Rashdi, Senior Specialist in renal and urological surgery utilising robotic and endoscopic techniques, with comprehensive support from anaesthesia, nursing and allied medical teams. Both operations were successfully completed.
The use of robotic surgery enhances procedural precision through high-resolution three-dimensional imaging and highly articulated instruments that replicate the movement of the human hand with exceptional stability, allowing complex procedures to be performed more efficiently within confined anatomical spaces.
This achievement aligns with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 in developing an advanced healthcare system based on innovation and modern technologies, and reflects the readiness of national competencies to keep pace with the latest advancements in precision surgery.
